Personas de todas las edades, artistas, políticos, periodistas, en su mayoría vestidas de negro, desafiaron las elevadas temperaturas y desfilaron por el Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo, donde fue expuesto su ataúd, adornado con su característico sombrero y sus gafas de sol, y ocasionalmente con la bandera de Venezuela, país al que él se refería como su segunda patria.

Rubby Pérez, quien se dio a conocer con temas como ‘El africano’, con la orquesta de su mentor, Wilfrido Vargas, fue «una gloria de arte nacional», dijo a la prensa el ministro dominicano de Cultura, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, tras encabezar junto al presidente del país, Luis Abinader, la guardia de honor en el funeral abierto al público.
