La catedral de Notre Dame de París desveló este viernes su nuevo “resplandor” al mundo, cinco años después de un devastador incendio, durante una visita del presidente francés, Emmanuel Macron, ocho días antes de su reapertura.
A la espera de que turistas de todo el mundo recorran de nuevo la nave de esta obra maestra del arte gótico, televisiones francesas e internacionales retransmitieron la visita de Macron, desvelando así el interior restaurado.
“Aún más bella que antes, con el resplandor redescubierto de sus piedras rubias y el color de las capillas”, escribe el mandatario de centroderecha en un documento enviado a los medios de comunicación.
Los trabajos de restauración permitieron limpiar la suciedad acumulada durante décadas y la pureza “inmaculada” del edificio católico que se anuncia deslumbrante “como nunca”, según su entorno.
La presidencia francesa no ahorró en calificativos para presentar esta visita: “resplandor”, “fascinación”, vista “impactante”, “fuegos artificiales de colores”, etc.
Y prometió un espectáculo sobrecogedor y un contraste sorprendente con la “bóveda abierta”, la “basura carbonizada” y el olor “insoportable” que Macron descubrió la noche del incendio, el 15 de abril de 2019.
Las llamas arrasaron el tejado y el armazón de la catedral, uno de los monumentos más visitados de Europa. Su icónica aguja, construida por Viollet-le-Duc en el siglo XIX, se derrumbó y se reconstruyó de forma idéntica.

El incendio, cuyas causas todavía no se han identificado, dio la vuelta al mundo.
Macron se comprometió a reabrir el edificio en un plazo de cinco años, lo que suscitó cierto escepticismo en su momento.
Ahora presenta su reapertura como el colofón de un año de “orgullo francés”, tras el éxito de los Juegos Olímpicos y Paralímpicos de París-2024, y en un momento en el que está debilitado políticamente.
La visita del viernes permitirá descubrir desde la explanada hasta la estructura del tejado, pasando por la nave, el crucero o alguna de sus capillas, y mostrar los principales logros de este titánico proyecto.
Las 2.000 personas que contribuyeron a la restauración fueron invitadas a esta visita, que encabezó el presidente, su esposa Brigitte Macron y el arzobispo de París, Laurent Ulrich. Se esperó la asistencia de al menos 1.300 personas.
“Esta última visita a las obras es la ocasión de darles las gracias” a quienes trabajaron en ellas, desde carpinteros a canteros, pasando por arquitectos y arqueólogos, entre otros, aseguró Macron.
El presidente también homenajeará a los mecenas, ya que el proyecto ha costado unos 700 millones de euros (unos 740 millones de dólares al cambio actual) y se ha financiado exclusivamente con donaciones.
El público deberá esperar todavía poco más de una semana para acceder a la catedral. Las ceremonias religiosas y laicas de reapertura están previstas el próximo 7 y 8 de diciembre, antes de que las puertas se abran al mundo.
Francia invitó a numerosos dirigentes extranjeros, aunque todavía se desconoce quién asistirá. El papa Francisco ya anunció por su parte que no estará presente.
