La inminencia del juicio ha generado tensiones en Minneapolis, donde cientos de personas desfilaron este domingo para demandar justicia para todos los civiles muertos debido a la brutalidad policial.
El juicio contra el expolicia Derek Chauvin, acusado de la muerte del afroamericano George Floyd, comienza este lunes en Minneapolis (Minnesota),a más de ocho meses después del incidente que generó protestas raciales en todo Estados Unidos.
Las imágenes del incidente, captadas por cámaras de transeúntes y difundidas al mundo entero, mostraron a Chauvin y otros dos agentes policiales sometiendo a Floyd, mientras este clamaba «No puedo respirar», hasta que quedó inconsciente.
La inminencia del juicio ha generado tensiones en Minneapolis, donde cientos de personas desfilaron este domingo para demandar justicia para todos los civiles muertos debido a la brutalidad policial.
El primer trámite en el juicio debería ser la selección del jurado, pero el juez del Condado Hennepin encargado del caso, Peter Cahill, probablemente deba decidir primero sobre las mociones presentadas por la Fiscalía para incluir, nuevamente, el cargo de homicidio en tercer grado.
Chauvin con 19 años de servicio en la Policía de Minneapolis, se enfrenta a un cargo por homicidio en primer grado y otro por homicidio en segundo grado, y su juicio es el primero en Minnesota, en el cual un policía blanco está acusado por la muerte de un civil negro.
